The Utility Department’s Treatment Division includes water and wastewater treatment, industrial discharge pretreatment, cross-connection control and laboratory services.Chapter 1 - ADMINISTRATION AND GENERAL PROVISIONSĪrticle 1 - Department of Water Resources This division also ensures compliance with EPA’s Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and biosolids regulations via Industrial Pretreatment, Cross Connection Control and the Environmental Laboratory. The Treatment Division manages the City’s drinking water production and wastewater treatment. Under this law, The City of Yuma is prohibited from installing or maintaining a water service connection to a consumer’s water system within its jurisdiction, unless the public potable water supply is protected against back flow or back siphonage by an approved prevention assembly(s) installed at the service connection or point of delivery.

Since 1974, the law has been amended in 19 to incorporate needed actions to protect the public’s water supply. These "cross connections" may be permanent or temporary and could cause the delivery of an unusable product, cause illness, or even death.Ĭross Connection also can occur when a line break causes water to back siphoned out of the building because of the lower water pressure at the point of breakage or leak.In 1974, Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to protect the public health by regulating the nation’s public water supply. This can happen when the water supply main, pipe, or service line is connected to equipment containing a substance not fit for drinking. However, during delivery, there is a danger that the water may become contaminated or polluted from sources out of our control. When water leaves the Main Street Water Treatment Facility, it is in its freshest and purest state.
